Unlike other mariners, boat owners haven’t been spoilt for choice when it comes to innovation or distinguishing features on their pride and joy. It is now the time to give boat owners a motor that comes with a great story of innovation and a standout design that will spark conversations.

We knew existing technology wouldn’t cut the mustard, which is why we started from the ground up. We took learnings from the automotive industry, and applied it to marine propulsion. Our researchers and engineers spent the last years developing axial flux motors. These unique pancake shaped electric motors deliver high torque at a low rpm. Perfect to take you further, more comfortably.

But our engineers did not stop there, they integrated a high-end controller on top of our motor. This massively improves packaging, reduces cost and simplifies the overall design.

Propel is not only a company of technology and innovation. We pride ourselves by designing worry-free experiences. The technology must not only be robust —this is the last motor you will ever buy—, but also simple to operate. For everyone. From seasoned boaters to first time users, and from kids to people that just want to rent a boat to spend a fun day on the water with friends and family.

Beyond aesthetics

'Dutch Design' plays an important role. This design philosophy is well known for innovation and its focus on sustainable products. But it also shows character, and fun plays an essential role. Design is pivotal for us, it gives our products a soul and identity. It is not all about aesthetics, we design for people. Our UX team have spent lots of time on designing user interfaces that work for everyone, not only aspirant pilots.

Less harm, more good

And lastly; responsibility. We’re on a mission to leave the world a better place. That’s why we developed Axial Flux Technology (AFT) in the first place. Our goal is to contribute to decarbonization where it matters, and at the largest scale possible. Look at our dedicated colleagues at Saietta, and you understand that we are serious about it.

We know that our business activity —from lighting our Amsterdam offices to casting aluminium parts—is part of the problem. We work steadily to change our business practices and share what we’ve learned. But we recognize that this is not enough. We seek not only to do less harm, but more good.
